Jamestown, ND — Minot State won their sixth out of seven games against the University of Jamestown Jimmies Wednesday night in a 4-1 comeback victory.
The Jimmies took the lead towards the end of the first period after UJ skater Marquez Ginger found a way to sneak one past MSU goalie
Jake Anthony. The Beavers' slow start didn't switch gears until after the first period, ending the first down 0-1.
Justin Metcalf, who had an impressive offensive performance with four goals in one game this past sunday, tied up the game for Minot State 4:03 into the second period in response to the Jimmies taking the lead.
Jordan Robertson and
Jake Bestul each earned an assist on the first goal of the night.
Reid Arnold earned a tripping penalty 11:03 into the second period, putting the beavers in a short-handed situation against Jamestown.
Josh Pederson set
Drew Carter up to earn some insurance and take the reigns on the lead, putting MSU up 2-1.
Jimmies skater Reid Wilson earned a tripping penalty 15:24 into the second period and gave Minot State a power play advantage that
Davis Sheldon was able to capitalize on and execute, thanks to the assists of
Drew Carter and
Reid Arnold at 15:57. The Beavers closed out the second period with a 3-1 lead over Jamestown as they headed into the locker rooms before the start of the third.
Ten minutes went by scoreless in the third period before
Jordan Robertson sent the puck over to
Payton Jerome to score the fourth and final goal of the midweek matchup between the Beavers and Jimmies.
Jake Anthony allowed only one goal through MSU's net the entire night and saved 24 shots that came his way.
The No. 2 Minot State Beavers close out their best-of-seven series against No. 9 University of Jamestown 6-1 on the 2021-2022 regular season. With both teams having placed highly in the national rankings, it's possible there could be a postseason matchup between the two teams in the future as we head into playoffs.
MSU continues their season this upcoming Friday against the Midland University Warriors on their home rink at the Maysa Arena. Puck drops at 8p.m.
