FAYETTE, IA --The Minot State women's basketball team took a 57-56 advantage into the fourth quarter, but could not hang on and fell 80-71 to the Upper Iowa Peacocks on the road Friday.
The Beavers (8-11, 6-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Kate Head, who had 22 points and seven assists. Amber Stevahn added 16 points and Natasha Elliott helped out with 12 points and two steals from the bench.
Minot State did a stellar job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 16 assists while turning the ball over six times. Head's seven assists paced the Beavers.
The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Friday's game, forcing 14 Upper Iowa turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Calli Delsman led the way individually for the Beavers with two steals.

After falling behind 10-2, Minot State went on a 10-0 run with 6:27 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Elliott, to take a 12-10 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 25-18.
Minot State then cut the Peacocks lead to 32-28 before going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Stevahn, to take a 34-32 lead. The Peacocks cut into that lead, but the Beavers still enjoyed a 39-38 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 21 points close to the basket.
After intermission, Minot State held on to its advantage and owned a 57-56 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Minot State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled seven of the team's 18 third-quarter points.
Upper Iowa then erased the Minot State lead in the game's final quarter for an 80-71 comeback victory. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.
