MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team continued to roll, and continued to roll against the Colorado Buffaloes, as well.
Five different players scored and
Morgan Baker stopped 13 shots in her second win of the season as the 2
nd-ranked Beavers completed a season sweep of Colorado, beating the Buffaloes 5-1 on Saturday at the Maysa Arena.
Minot State (21-4-0 overall) bested the Buffalos (6-11-0) 3-0 and 5-0 in Colorado in October, and topped Colorado 4-0 on Friday.
Aspen Cooper helped Minot State continue that dominance as she scored the game's opening goal Saturday with 2 minutes, 23 seconds left in the first period off a
Riley Ball assist.
The Beavers made that tenuous lead hold up for much of the second period before Minot pulled away with a pair of goals in a 2:12 stretch as
Haley Wickham, left alone in front of the Colorado goal, scored off assists from
Megan Norris and
Mia Mckee with 3:35 left in the middle period.
Then, 2:12 later,
Paige Ackerman put in a rebound after a
Denali Sigurdson shot for a 3-0 advantage.
That advantage grew to 4-0 as
Maiya Aschberg finished off a
Jenae Cockerill assist for Minot State early in the third before the Buffaloes scored a late power-play goal to draw a bit close.
Minot State quickly responded though as
Sydney Spicer netted the weekend's final goal off a Cockerill assist for the 5-1 final and the seventh straight victory for the Beavers.
The Beavers will look to extend that win streak next weekend as they are back in action once again at home at the Maysa Arena, this time hosting Big 10 foe and 13
th-ranked Michigan State in a pair of games set to face-off at 4:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
