Beavers prepare for homecoming showdown against Wolves

MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State Beavers (0-6) will take on the Northern State Wolves (3-3) on the First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 15th for the homecoming/hall of fame weekend showcase. 

Last Outing: The Beavers dropped a road contest last week against Minnesota State-Moorhead by a 36-14 score. The Beavers struck first and held a 7-0 score before the Dragon offense picked up their pace and outshone MSU. The Beavers did have a good offensive showing with 344 yards on the game. 156 yards came from rushing while 188 came from the passing game. 

Dawson Macleary led the passing attack getting all 188 passing yards for MSU, while Ali Mohamed had his best game of the year gaining 93 yards on the ground to lead the Beaver rushing attack as well as the lone two touchdowns for MSU. Erik Palmquist was the leading receiver gaining nine receptions for 67 yards on the day. Charlie Raetzman led the Beaver defense with 13 total tackles while having a pass breakup to his name. Four different Beavers had a tackle for loss while another duo of Beavers combined for a TFL. Chase Doty and Lafayette Bades' TFL was a sack for each of them. Along with Raetzman, Parker McClure, Doty, and Logan Krueger all had one pass breakup. 

Series: The Beavers and Wolves have squared off nine times with Northern State defeating MSU all nine times. The Wolves narrowly escaped the Beavers last year in Aberdeen scoring 13 points in the last quarter to escape the Beavers upset bid by a 36-35 score. 

The Opponent: The Wolves have had quite the season already, defeating Upper Iowa before dropping a road contest at Wayne State, before narrowly defeating the Mankato Mavericks 23-22. The Wolves then dropped two contests to Augustana and helped give the Mary Marauders their first win of the year before defeating Winona State last week. The Wolves have scored 23.33 points on average while gaining 2036 yards on the year with 17 touchdowns. 

NSU has utilized a dual threat quarterback approach with Will Madler playing in all six of the contests while Michael Bonds has only played in four. Madler has completed 55.41 percent of his passes while Bonds has completed 62.86 percent of his throws. Madler has made seven touchdowns with four interceptions, while Bonds has made three touchdowns compared to two interceptions. Stanley Haskins Jr. has gained the most rushing yards with 193 yards. The Wolves rushing attack also has potent attacking from Madler who has 184 yards and three touchdowns, while Isaiah Cherrier also has 144 yards and two touchdowns to add extra depth to the Wolves attack. Ben Noland has become the leading target for the Wolves quarterbacks getting 25 receptions for 315 yards and two touchdowns. 

On the defensive side of the ball Brennan Kutterer and Trey King lead the effort as they have 33 and 32 tackles each, respectively. Ian Marshall has gained the most tackles for loss with 14 TFLs and six sacks to lead the Wolves defense. NSU has seven interceptions and 27 pass breakups while forcing two fumbles. 

The Beavers: The Beavers have averaged 11.33 points per game while gaining 1399 yards on the year and eight touchdowns. Macleary has been the leading passing force for the Beavers gaining 982 yards for five touchdowns. Mohamed is the leading rushing for the Beaver attack gaining 346 yards on the year. MSU has relied upon the trio receivers of Peyton Lamoureux, Nathan Young, and Erik Palmquist who have gained 263, 243, and 231 yards each, respectively. 

Isaiah Bigby has been relied upon on the defensive effort leading the Beavers with 40 tackles and a safety on the year. Caleb Ness leads the Beavers with three tackles for loss to lead MSU. Ness, Jonathan Leon, Lafayette Bade, and Chase Doty all have one sack on the year for MSU while Knylen Miller-Levi has two interceptions with three other Beavers stealing one interception. The Beaver defense has made 15 pass breakups and five forced fumbles. Dillon Fedor has gone three for four on field goals on the year with his longest field goal being 47 yards. 

Looking Ahead: The Beavers will start a two game road trip next week as they travel all the way to Fayette, Iowa to face off against the Upper Iowa Peacocks. The Peacocks and Beavers are set to square off at noon on Saturday Oct. 22nd at Harms-Eischeid Stadium.
