Homecoming energy not enough for Beavers against Northern State

MINOT, N.D. -- Minot State fell 38-10 to Northern State at home Saturday afternoon in the Beavers homecoming game at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Saturday.

The Beavers fell to 0-7 overall.

Dawson Macleary led Minot State's passing attack with 222 yards through the air.

Ali Mohamed paced the MSU rushing attack by accumulating 55 yards over the course of the game, breaking the NCAA Division II all-time rushing record of 2,366 yard by Jarvis Mustipher (2012-16). Mohamed has rushed for 2,377 yards in his Minot State career. Evan Lovett also added 22 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Macleary's most prolific target in the ballgame was Nathan Young, who caught three passes for 53 yards. Peyton Lamoureux got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 52 yards.

Isaiah Bigby paced the Minot State defensive effort, recording three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one interception. Charlie Raetzman added five tackles and one interception and Carson Cayko had eight tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one sack in the loss.

The Beavers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while avoiding any giveways.

Defensively, Minot State held up fairly well against the Northern State offensive attack, holding Northern State to 265 total yards. The MSU defense disrupted the Northern State passing attack on the way to grabbing two interceptions.

Mohamed now leads the Minot State division two-era rushing yards.

Coaches Comments
"I think our team did everything we asked them to do in the first half, to play with energy, with our style of energy," Minot State coach Mike Aldrich said. "...But really right at the end of that first half is when we started to get away from our energy."
