MINOT, N.D. - This time, the Warriors managed to fend off Minot State for most of the first 20 minutes.
One night after a barrage in the first period, the 2nd-ranked Minot State men's hockey team waited until the second period to unleash its offense, scoring four goals in 4 minutes, 34 seconds of action to ignite a 14-1 win over the visiting Midland Warriors.
Leading just 1-0 after the opening period, the Beavers put eight in the net in the second period to blow the game open.
Friday night, the Beavers (6-0-0 overall) rolled with six first-period goals and never looked back in an 11-2 win.
Carter Barley opened the scoring Saturday night with a power-play goal with 5:59 left until the first intermission off assists from
Eric Krywy and
Christian Kadolph.
A fairly strong start for Midland goalie Nahuel Veyan, who made 10 first-period saves.
Then, 18 seconds into the second period, Minot State opened the floodgates.
Jagger Thiessen scored off a
Dalton Dosko assist, then 56 seconds later,
Reid Arnold scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 in the blink of an eye.
Jared Hamm then stretched the lead to 4-0 just 1:17 later, off a
Davis Sheldon assist, then Barley finished the early onslaught with his second of the night with 4:34 gone in the middle stanza for a 5-0 lead.

Jake Anthony assisted on the fifth goal of the night.
Reid Arnold's second of the night stretched the lead to 6-0, and ended the game for Veyan who was replaced by Ondrej Patha.
Josh Pederson and
Austin Wieler added assists on Arnold's second of the game.
Patha didn't hold up much better against the Minot State onslaught as Barley finished off his third career hat trick to make it 7-0, with assists from
Landyn Cochrane and Pawluk, then
Troy Hamilton scored his first collegiate goal without an assist before
Jay Buchholz made it 9-0 off assists from
Wayde Johannesson and Thiessen with 4:13 left until the end of the session.
Hamm, Cochrane,
Reece Henry, Barley – who finished with a career-high four goals - and Kadolph all added goals in the third period for Minot State.
Jake Anthony finished with 13 saves and
Tre Sortland added six in the third period as the duo teamed up in goal for the win for the Beavers.
Minot State is off next weekend then plays Jamestown in a home-and-home series on Oct. 28 and 29.
