Beavers travel to Iowa for matchup against Peacocks

MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State Beavers (0-7) prepare to start their two week road trip with a contest at the Upper Iowa Peacocks (0-7). Kickoff at Harms-Eischeid Stadium is set for noon on Saturday Oct. 22nd. 

Last Outing: The Beavers were stifled in the second half by the Northern State Wolves at home falling 38-10. After a 14-3 first half lead by the Wolves, NSU went on to nab four second half scores. However, the offensive production was very similar as the Wolves just barely outgained MSU 265 to 257 yards. The Beavers did also gain more first downs than Northern State by a 20 to 15 margin.

Dillon Fedor started the Beaver scoring in the 2nd quarter nailing a 30 yard field goal, making up for the missed one at the same distance earlier in the quarter. Dawson Macleary was an offensive machine completing 20 passes for 222 yards with his longest being 36 yards. Ali Mohamed was the leading rusher picking up 55 yards on the day gaining 14 as the longest rush for the Beaver offense on the day, however Evan Lovett did finish with the lone MSU touchdown to go with 22 yards on the day. Erik Palmquist was the most targeted receiver on the day getting five receptions for 31 yards. Nathan Young and Peyton Lamoureux each were the leading receivers in yards with 53 and 52, respectively. The Beaver defense was led by Carson Cayko with eight tackles and two tackles for loss, and one being the lone MSU sack on the day. Isaiah Bigby also made a tackle for loss to go with his three tackles as well as an interception. Charlie Raetzman also finished with five tackles, and interception, and the lone pass breakup for MSU. 

Series: The Beavers and Peacocks have played each other five times with UIU owning a 4-1 record. The Beavers lone victory came last year at the Herb Parker Stadium in a nailbiting 17-14 victory to secure the Beavers first win of the season. 

The Opponent: The Peacocks are averaging 12.86 points per game getting 95 first downs and gaining 1,639 yards with 13 touchdowns. UIU has followed the lead of Marcus Orr, playing six of the seven games. Orr has completed 55.77% of his passes, completing 87 passes, while throwing six interceptions for 948 yards and six touchdowns. Desean Phillips has been the leading rusher, gaining 318 yards for an average of 3.6 yards per average and one touchdown. The Peacocks have three receivers with over 200 yards, led by Cole Ewald with 268 yards and two touchdowns. Willy Camacho and Isaiah Gray each follow behind with 244 and 236 yards each with Gray tacking on a single touchdown. 

On the defensive side Collin Jones leads with 44 tackles with 29 total solo tackles as well as one tackle for loss and half of a sack, and one pass breakup. Trevor Thompson and Baxter Bohr have each made five and a half tackles for loss as Bohr has made 3.5 sacks on top of that to lead UIU in sacks. The Peacocks have made seven interceptions, led by Cody Cotton with two. Cotton and Zacarius Murray lead the defense in pass breakups with seven and six, respectively. The Peacocks have also forced four fumbles as well. 

The Beavers: The Beavers have scored 78 points on the year to average 11.14 points per game. The Beavers are averaging 1,656 yards to go with nine touchdowns. The Beavers have controlled the time of possession compared to their opponents 30:13 compared to opponents 29:47. Macleary has been the face of the offense so far this year completing 55% of his passes for 1,204 yards on the season with five touchdowns and eight interceptions. Mohamed, after a slow start to the season, has now gained 401 yards on the year to average 3.2 per carry and three touchdowns. Macleary has relied on three main receivers, led by Lamoureux with 22 receptions for 315 yards and one touchdown. Nathan Young has made 27 receptions for 296 yards and one touchdown, while Erik Palmquist made 28 receptions for 262 yards and three touchdowns. 

Bigby has been the leading defensive force doing a bit of everything for the Beavers leading with 43 tackles, while leading and tacking on three and a half tackles for loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups, and one safety. Five different Beavers have made a sack on the year, consisting of Cayko, Caleb Ness, Jonathan Leon, Lafayette Bade, and Chase Doty all with one apiece. Kylen Miller-Levi has tied Bigby to lead MSU with two interceptions each. Raetzman has become the leading pass breakup specialist with four while five different Beavers have forced a fumble. Fedor has gone four for six tries on field goals with his longest being 47 yards. 

Looking Ahead: The Beavers will wrap up their two weeks on the road by taking a visit to the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth (5-2). The showdown at James S. Malosky Stadium is set for noon on Saturday Oct. 29th for the Bulldogs senior day.
