Beavers battle but fall to in-state rival Mary in 4 sets

MINOT, ND --The Minot State volleyball team fell to the Mary Marauders in four sets 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19 Tuesday at home at MSU Dome.

The loss dropped Minot State's record to 0-23 overall and 0-16 in NSIC action.

Emily Kotelnikoff finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Beavers offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .350. Defensively, Minot State had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Kendal Braun's 17, 16 from Hailey Wathen, and 14 more from Lucia Mercolini. All three turned in career-highs in digs. From the front row, Jenna Pahlen contributed five blocks.

SET 1 | The Beavers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tight first set 25-23. Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that was tied up two times before the Marauders took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | Minot State then dropped the second set 25-17 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Minot State trailed by as many as eight points as Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Marauders took over the lead.

SET 3 | Minot State rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Beavers scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-16 victory. Minot State ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, nine points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills while only notching two attack errors along the way. The Minot State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Minot State couldn't keep the rally going and fell in the fourth set 25-19 to drop the match. The Beavers trailed by as many as six points as Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 and Minot State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up two times before the Marauders took over.
