Beavers secure 3-1 victory, first win in coach Alex Lehocky era



MINOT, ND --
A determined Minot State volleyball team got the chance to celebrate the first win in the Alex Lehocky era.

Battling past visiting Minnesota Crookston, the Beavers scored a 25-17, 19-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 over the Golden Eagles on Saturday at home at MSU Dome in NSIC play.

The win boosted the Beavers' record to 1-24 overall and 1-17 in NSIC play.

The Beavers were led by a double-double from Alexandra Koontz, who registered 15 kills and 16 digs on the day. Taylor Wyatt also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Hailey Wathen chipped in with 15 digs to go with eight blocks from Wyatt.

"It feels good, I can't complain," Coach Lehocky said of her first Minot State victory.

"All year long, I have seen this much potential in them and so for them finally to play to the potential I've seen is exciting."

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers cruised to an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-17. Minot State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that had just one lead change before the Beavers took over the lead. Minot State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Minot State then fell in the second set 25-19, evening things at a set each. The Beavers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Minot State put the second-set loss behind it and grabbed a 2-1 match lead with a victory in the third set. The Beavers took the set 25-13 propelled by a solid performance on the attacking side. Minot State put together a .333 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Beavers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Minot State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Minnesota Crookston attacks in the stanza.

SET 4 | Minot State kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory. The Beavers led from the opening point in the set to secure the victory. Minot State finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 10 points, to finish off the set. Minot State also supplemented their offense with five aces in the set. Minot State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Minnesota Crookston attacks in the stanza.
