Beavers back home for key matchups against Vikings and Wildcats


MINOT, N.D.-
The Minot State women's soccer team (5-2-4, 5-1-2 NSIC) will head back home after an extended road stint. This time the Augustana Vikings (5-4-2, 5-2-1 NSIC) start the weekend in Minot Friday night on the First Western Bank Field at the Herb Parker Stadium with kick off set for 5 p.m. The Wayne State Wildcats (2-5-2, 2-3-3 NSIC) will head up to face the Beavers in a Sunday afternoon showdown with a kickoff set for noon. 

The Beavers are coming off their first weekend sweep of the season first defeating a stout Northern State Wolves in a 2-1 victory, followed by a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons. 

The Vikings are on a three-game winning streak of their own, while putting on a scoring frenzy. The Vikings first defeated Sioux Falls in a 6-0 victory at home followed by another home victory against Southwest Minnesota State in a 4-1 decision. Auggie is outscoring their opponents 23-13 while putting up 188 shots with 100 of those shots on goal. The Vikings are led by a duo of five-goal scorers in seniors Josie Arduser and Morgan Keirstead. Keirstead also leads Auggie with total shots (34) and shots on goal (18). The Vikings have been backstopped by junior Jillian Barkus who has played every minute of every game this season while only allowing 13 goals while making 35 saves and 99 faced shots. Barkus also has four shutouts on the year. 

The Wildcats are facing the back end of a 1-0-1 weekend first tying the Mustangs 1-1 Friday before finishing victorious in a 1-0 fashion over the Cougars. The Wildcats have only mustered 11 goals on the year while mustering 124 shots, 61 on goal. Junior Annika Syvrud leads the 'cats in scoring with three goals. Syvrud is tied with senior Abby Sutton for 13 shots total but Syvrud has the edge in shots on goal with 10. WSC has gone with a healthy mix of junior Sidney Truman and senior Hayden Wallace. Wallace has started seven games to Trumans' four. Truman has allowed 12 goals with 27 saves, whereas Wallace has allowed nine goals with 44 saves. 

Following the home stint the Beavers head back on the road for arguably the biggest weekend of the year for MSU. The Beavers first head to the 19th ranked Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks (8-1-2, 6-0-2 NSIC) on Friday Oct. 14th at 3 p.m. The Beavers then travel to the twin cities to face off against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears (5-4-2, 5-2-1 NSIC) at 1 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 16th.
