MINOT, N.D. --The Minot State men's basketball team got a 29-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-69 to the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets at the MSU Dome on Saturday.
The Beavers (1-1 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Javeon Tolliver, who had 16 points and six rebounds. Khari Broadway added 14 points off the bench and Jaxon Gunville helped out with 10 points and two steals.
Led by Roman Srejma's five offensive rebounds, Minot State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 12 second-chance points.
Minot State forced 13 Montana State Billings turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into nine points on the offensive end of the floor. Gunville's two steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After playing to a 2-2 tie, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 18:06 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Broadway, to take a 7-2 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 32-25.
Montana State Billings kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-41 advantage before Minot State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Jalen Cook's three, to shrink the deficit to 58-49 with 7:43 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Montana State-Billings managed to hold on for the 76-69 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 44 points.
