Minot State women's basketball falls at Montana State Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Minot State women's basketball team got a 14-point performance from the bench, but fell 78-44 at Montana State Billings to the Yellowjackets on Saturday.


Natasha Elliott led the Beavers (2-2 overall) with nine points and six rebounds. Kate Head also tacked on eight points and Jaime Skeggs helped out with three points from the bench.


Minot State took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 18 made field goals. Head's three assists led the distribution list for the Beavers.


How It Happened

After playing to a 2-2 tie early in the game, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 9:13 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Elliott, to take a 7-2 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 16-13.


The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 41-24 halftime deficit.


Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 63-28 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring four in the paint in the third.


Montana State Billings kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 70-30 advantage before Minot State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Head's three, to shrink the deficit to 70-38 with 4:05 to go in the contest. Montana State Billings responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 78-44. Minot State took advantage of three Montana State Billings turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.
