MINOT, N.D. --Â Led by a 62.5 percent shooting performance from three-point distance, the Minot State women's basketball team defeated the Dickinson State Blue Hawks 91-60 in the Beavers home debut on Tuesday.
The Beavers (4-2 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Kate Head, who had 20 points, six assists, and three steals. Kennedy Harris added 15 points and seven rebounds from the bench and Emma Mogen chipped in as well with 10 points. Dickinson State played the game as an exhibition.
"We were all just super pumped up to play on our home court and I think it showed," Harris said.
Vilborg Jonsdottir pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Minot State, which grabbed 15 boards and turning them into 14 second-chance points.

Minot State forced 20 Dickinson State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 30 points on the other end of the floor. Jonsdottir's four steals led the way for Minot State.

"They were focused against a team, they offensively were attacking the basket and we were playing really good defense, so I think they had a lot of fun," Minot State head coach Mike Brandt said.
How It Happened
After playing to a 7-7 tie early in the game, Minot State went on an 11-0 run with 5:14 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Head, to take an 18-7 lead. The Beavers then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 22-11 advantage. Minot State capitalized on seven Dickinson State turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.
Minot State built that first quarter lead to 34-19 before going on a 12-0 run starting at the 5:20 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Alexandra Baker, to increase its lead to 46-19. The Beavers proceeded to tack on three points to that lead and enjoyed a 52-22 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 30 points.

Minot State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Jaime Skeggs, to expand its lead further to 67-38 with 37 seconds to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Blue Hawks had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Beavers still entered the fourth quarter with a 67-41 edge. Minot State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 15 total points.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Harris' layup, to grow the lead to 76-45 with 6:27 to go in the contest. The Beavers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 91-60 win. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 24 points in the paint.
