DENVER, Colo. --Junior Ricky Apodaca had everything working on Sunday, striking out 10 Regis (CO) hitters over 7.1 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Minot State Beavers lost to the Rangers 8-7.
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior Matt Malone, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBIs. Junior Derek Kay put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Declan Buckle also helped out for Minot State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Kay put Minot State on the board with a two-out solo home run off sophomore Dylan De.
The Beavers got back on the board in the fifth trailing 2-1. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run homer from Malone, which brought the Beavers lead to 4-2.
Regis (CO) fired back to tie the ballgame at four before Minot State reclaimed a 7-4 advantage in the eighth inning. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Regis (CO) scored four times over the last inning to grab the 8-7 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Freshman Dalin Ludlow's triple off of senior Justin Kleinsorge plated two for Minot State.
The Beavers deficit grew to 6-2 before their offense cut into that deficit in the sixth inning. Senior Drew Behling came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Rangers.
Minot State kept the Rangers off the board before rallying to grab a 7-6 lead in the seventh. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Cardoso.
Minot State held the Rangers scoreless before building on their lead in the ninth inning. The Beavers scored two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Apodaca, bringing the Minot State advantage to 9-6. The score remained 9-6, as the Beavers held on for the win.
