MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team went into the half beating Minnesota State-Moorhead 37-24, but could not hang on in the second half and fell 71-64 to the Dragons at home Saturday.
The Beavers (8-18, 6-13) had two players score in double figures, led by Calli Delsman, who had 21 points and two blocks. Kennedy Harris tacked on 17 points and Natasha Elliott added nine points and seven rebounds.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 4-2 advantage, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 5:41 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Elliott, to increase its lead to 9-2. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-13 advantage. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 17 points close to the basket.
Minot State built that first quarter lead to 21-15 before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 7:20 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Lucy Chapman, to increase its lead to 26-15. The Beavers proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 37-24 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State saw non-starters score eight of its 20 total points off the bench in the quarter.
Minot State then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Dragons 54-49 entering the fourth. Minot State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 12 total points.
Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 71-64. The Beavers took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
