MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team shot 58.8 percent from deep, but fell to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 89-75 at home Wednesday.
The Beavers (15-10, 9-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Max Cody, who had 23 points and seven assists. Jaxon Gunville tacked on 15 points off the bench and Eli Cave helped out with 10 points from the bench.
The Minot State offense was very productive from beyond the arc, pouring in 10 threes on 17 attempts. Gunville was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining four treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 33-22, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 4:35 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 33-30. Southwest Minnesota State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Beavers down 42-38 entering halftime.
Southwest Minnesota State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 62-46 advantage before Minot State went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 62-53 with 11:11 to go in the contest. Southwest Minnesota State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 89-75. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 37 points.
