Cardoso racks up 3 extra base hits in Minot State's 10-4 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. --Junior Kaiden Cardoso collected three extra base hits to help power the Minot State Beavers over the Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves 10-4 on Tuesday.

Junior Dominick Parkhurst (0-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (3-1). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.

Cardoso's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day, and included two doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Junior Derek Kay put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Sophomore Mark Ossanna also helped out for the Beavers, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Cardoso.

The Beavers then held the ThunderWolves scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Minot State picked up a run on Kay's one-out solo home run off of junior Jeron Petterson, which brought the Beavers lead to 4-0.

Colorado State-Pueblo narrowed Minot State's lead to 4-1 before the Beavers stretched the advantage to 8-1 in the fifth inning. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Cardoso.

The ThunderWolves gained ground, closing the gap to 8-2 until Minot State added some insurance in the seventh. Senior Jordan Williams' run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Beavers, bringing the Minot State advantage to 10-2. Colorado State-Pueblo put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Beavers still coasted to the 10-4 win.
