Minot State falls to Purdue Northwest in back-to-back games

HAMMOND, Ind. --Despite picking up six hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Purdue Northwest, Minot State was unable to push across more runs, as the Beavers lost to the Pride 3-2 Wednesday.

Trevyn Badger (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State (6-8). The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Craig Schmich was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out three.

Offensively, the Beavers were paced by Ricky Apodaca, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Kaiden Cardoso compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Jordan Williams also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Apodaca put Minot State on the board with a leadoff home run off Jack Sielatycki.

The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 3-1. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Cardoso, which tightened the Pride lead to 3-2. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In game two, Minot State took the lead early, off a double to left field by Williams, which scored Apodaca. The Pride of Purdue Northwest struck back in the bottom of the inning to even the score.

The Pride built on that momentum and scored two more runs in the fourth inning, gaining a comfortable lead. The Beavers fought hard, but were unable to put any more runs on the board and Purdue Northwest took the 3-1 victory.
