Minot State pulls off dramatic extra-inning win in split at Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Minot State Beavers needed 11 innings to get the job done, but pulled off the 9-6 extra-innings victory over the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Saturday, part of an NSIC doubleheader split as the Bulldogs took game two, 7-2.

Senior Trinity Valentine (10-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (22-5, 3-2 NSIC). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing five walks and striking out seven.

In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by junior Jamie Odlum, who went 4-for-6 on the day with two RBIs. Sophomore Brooklyn Morrison put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs. Junior Lenora Watson also helped out for Minot State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 5-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Freshman Abby Lohse drove in two runs for Minot State with a single, that scored Watson and junior Kiera Shwaluk.

The Beavers kept the Bulldogs off the board before narrowing the gap further in the sixth. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Shwaluk's single, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Bulldogs.
