Minot State drops pair of games at Upper Iowa

GAME 1 | Upper Iowa 4, Minot State 2

FAYETTE, IA -- The Minot State Beavers got a boost from junior Lenora Watson, who racked up three hits in a 4-2 loss to the Upper Iowa Peacocks in NSIC play on Saturday.

Senior Trinity Valentine (11-6) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Sophomore Jasmine Blizzard was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.

In addition to her three hits, Watson had a home run and two RBI to lead the Beavers. Sophomore Brooklyn Morrison compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Watson put Minot State on the board with a leadoff home run off Sydney Wilcox.

The Peacocks then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the fourth. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Watson, which brought the score level at 2-2. Upper Iowa then scored two times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 4-2 win.

Freshman Reegan Floyd (8-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (27-13 overall, 8-8 NSIC).

Watson led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double. Sophomore Brooklyn Morrison put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Abby Lohse also chipped in, going 1-for-2 for Minot State with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to Morrison's RBI double with one out.

The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 4-1. Lohse came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Peacocks. The Beavers were unable to get any closer as Upper Iowa added six runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.
