Minot State celebrates "Senior Day" with plenty of fight against Golden Bears

MINOT, ND -- The Minot State softball team honored its seniors Rianna Aasen, Trinity Valentine, and Zoya Robbins on Sunday at South Hill Complex as they Beavers battled Concordia, St. Paul in the next to final games of the regular season.

Minot State battled hard all day long in the NSIC doubleheader, but in the end fell 10-3 and 8-6 to the visiting Golden Bears.
 

GAME 1 | Concordia, Saint Paul 10, Minot State 3

MINOT, ND --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Minot State struggled to cash them in, leaving 10 Beavers on base in a 10-3 loss at the hands of the Concordia, Saint Paul Golden Bears on Sunday.

Senior Trinity Valentine (11-9) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (28-18 overall, 9-12 NSIC). Junior Zoya Robbins also went 3.2 innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking none and striking out one.

Robbins led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with an RBI. Junior Kiera Shwaluk put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with two walks. Junior Lenora Watson also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Minot State with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Robbins. Concordia, Saint Paul then scored seven times over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 10-3 win.

MINOT, ND -- The Minot State Beavers got a boost from junior Jazmin Karunungan, who strung together three hits in an 8-6 loss to the Concordia, Saint Paul Golden Bears Sunday.

Sophomore Jasmine Blizzard (7-3) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Freshman Reegan Floyd was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

In addition to her three hits, Karunungan had a walk and two RBI to lead the Beavers. Junior Lenora Watson put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Abby Lohse also helped out for Minot State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Junior Alina Gonzalez's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Minot State.

The Golden Bears expanded their lead to 7-2 before the Beavers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth. Minot State pushed across a run on Watson's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Golden Bears.

Concordia, Saint Paul expanded their lead to 8-3 before the Minot State offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 8-5 in the fifth. Karunungan's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Beavers.

Minot State held the Golden Bears off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Karunungan, bringing the score to 8-6 in favor of Concordia, Saint Paul. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
