MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State Beavers (0-2) are looking to bounce back from their 34-0 loss to the Sioux Falls Cougars last weekend. MSU is hosting the Wayne State College Wildcats (2-0) this Saturday Sept. 17th at 1 p.m. on First Bank Western Field at Herb Parker Stadium.
Last Outing: The Beavers fell on the road to the University of Sioux Falls last Saturday. The Cougars had a death grip on the Beaver offense as MSU only was able to get 8 first downs during the game. The Beavers gained 93 yards on the day thanks to the duo of young QB's
Dawson Macleary and
Marshaun Campbell dropping 73 and 40 yards each, respectively.
Ali Mohamed led the rushing attack only gaining 19 yards on the day with
Evan Lovett adding in 5 yards.
Josh Pinello was a QB favorite leading the Beavers with 40 yards. The Beaver defense put up a fight against the solid Cougar offense as four different Beavers racked up five or more tackles led by
Justin Coleman with six and
Isaiah Bigby,
Knylen Miller-Levi, and
Kyle VanBerkom each with five. Miller-Levi also made an interception for the Beaver defense.
Series: The Wildcats own a 4-1 series over the Beavers since MSU joined the NSIC. MSU and WSC played last season as the Wildcats rolled to a 48-0 victory over the Beavers in what would be the start of a very stellar season for WSC. The Beavers are looking to break a two meeting scoreless streak against the Wildcats as back on Oct. 20, 2018 the Wildcats took a 34-0 victory here in Minot. However, the Beavers lone victory over WSC came the previous meeting on Sept. 10th, 2016 when the Beavers took a 20-14 victory in Wayne, Neb.
Opponent: The Wildcats are 2-0 to start the year with a 33-28 victory on the road against UMary and a 13-6 home victory over the Wolves of Northern State. Sophomore QB Nick Bohn has completed 56% of his passes while racking up 319 yards passing and 81 yards rushing. Senior Anthony Watkins has been the lead back this season for the Wildcats rushing for 145 yards on the season and rushing in two touchdowns. Sophomore Jadon Johnson has been the favorite receiver of Bohn as he is tied with the most targets on the season with five while using those catches to rack up 145 yards. Sophomore Alex Kowalczyk has led the Wildcat defense with 20 total tackles on the year. Senior Jaylan Scott has also contributed 12 tackles and leads the team with 2.5 tackles for loss, while sophomore Jaxon Johnson leads the Wildcats with two sacks on the year. The Wildcats have also forced four interceptions and three forced fumbles.
The Beavers: The Beavers are known for their reliant rushing attack thanks in part mostly to junior Mohamed who was a Harlon Hill candidate last season. Mohamed already has 97 yards on the season while averaging 48.5 yards per game. Sophomore Macleary has been the lead QB this season for the Beavers, starting both matchups. Macleary is completing 54.55% of his passes while racking up 257 yards and one touchdown and averaging 128.5 yards per game. Sophomore wide receiver
Nathan Young leads the Beavers in receptions this year with nine total receptions while racking up 92 yards for a game average of 46 yard per game. Sophomore Bigby leads the Beaver defense racking up 18 total tackles on the year, 14 being solo tackles. Six different Beavers have recorded a tackle for loss on the year. Bigby and junior Miller-Levi each have one interception from the Beavers. MSU defense as a whole has racked up six pass break ups, two QB hits, two forced fumbles, and one safety.
Looking Ahead: Following the home stint against WSC, the Beavers will head back on the road to Marshall, Minn. to take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (1-1). Game time is set to kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 24th.
