Beavers continue home stand against the Cougars and Mustangs

MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State women's soccer team (1-2-2) stays here in Minot for one more weekend as they play host to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs (0-1-4) and the Sioux Falls Cougars (0-4-1). The clash with the Mustangs will take place Friday night Sept. 16th at 7 p.m. while the battle against the "Coogs" will take place Sunday Sept. 18th at noon.

The Beavers are coming off a weekend split first a 1-0 setback against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, followed by a 1-0 victory, the first of the season, against St. Cloud State.

The Mustangs are coming off of an 0-1-1 weekend, first losing at Upper Iowa Peacocks 1-0, then coming back to tie the Winona State Warriors 1-1. The Mustangs have mustered three goals on 53 attempts while averaging 10.6 shots per game. SMSU has taken more corner kicks than their opponents in a 25-16 edge. All three mustang goals have been scored by three different players. The Mustangs are led by sophomore Kirstin Wetterstrom who leads the 'Stangs with 13 shots, as well as one goal and one assist for three points to lead SMSU in that category as well. The Mustangs have been led by junior Rachel Hicks in net. Hicks has allowed two goals on 17 saves with two shutouts for an 0-1-3 record.

The Cougars are also coming off of an 0-1-1 weekend. The Cougars first lost to the Warriors of Winona State 1-0, then came into Fayette, Iowa and tied the Peacocks of Upper Iowa 0-0. The Cougars are still searching for their first goal of the regular season. The Cougars however have created 13 shots with nine of them reaching the net needing to be saved. The Cougars have only had four corner kicks on the season so far. The Cougars have made use of both their rostered goaltenders in senior Holli Knudsen and sophomore Caroline Titze. Titze has started three matches while Knudsen has started two, however both goalies played in a 4-0 loss to Northwest Missouri State. Knudsen has made 20 saves while allowing four goals while Titze has made 17 saves while allowing five goals.

The Beavers will look to continue their winning ways thanks to a stellar defensive performance this past weekend and senior Maddie Kindred allowing one goal with 13 saves for the weekend. Redshirt freshman Emma Monsen recorded her first collegiate point against SCSU assisting sophomore Brooklyn Casey's goal. Four different Beavers have scored on the young season while senior Chloe Allan has yet to find the back of the net, but is heavily leading the Beavers in shots with 14 and eight on goal. Kindred has allowed eight goals on 26 saves, good for a 76.5 percentage, one shut out, and a 1-2-2 record.

Following the home stint the Beavers will take to the road to make their longest trek in conference play as they travel to Winona, Minn. Friday Sept. 23rd to face the Winona State Warriors at 5 p.m. Following their clash with the Warriors, the Beavers will take flight to Peacock territory, home of Upper Iowa for a matchup on Sunday Sept. 25th at noon.
