The Warriors are coming off of a weekend split on the road against the SCSU Huskies and the UMD Bulldogs. Friday night WSU took a 2-0 defeat to the St. Cloud State Huskies while roaring back Sunday with a 3-1 victory at Minnesota-Duluth. If you remember a couple weekends ago, the Beavers battled both of these two teams splitting with them as well, however a 1-0 setback against UMD and a 1-0 victory over SCSU. So far for the season the Warriors have mustered 12 goals while challenging the goaltenders with 76 shots while 43 of them have needed to be saved. WSU has a tendency of fouling more than their competition as they have 71 fouls on the year so far, but they don't short themselves out of opportunities as they have made 34 corner kicks on the year. The Warriors have a duo leading the team in goals with three apiece; senior Jaida Wiege and senior Riley Harmon. However, the Warriors do have bench firepower in sophomore Abigail Williams who has scored two goals on the season entirely off the bench. Wiege also leads the Warriors in shots (12) and shots on goal (7). Sophomore Chloe Swanson has been the steadying force in net for the Warriors starting six out of seven games on the year. Swanson has only allowed six goals on the year while making 26 saves.
The Upper Iowa Peacocks weren't so lucky this past weekend going 0-1-1. The Peacocks started off Friday with a 3-1 deficit to UMD, while bouncing back for a 1-1 tie against SCSU. The Peacocks have netted five goals on 40 shots with 26 of those shots reaching the net needing to be saved. UIU has had 20 corner kicks and is a perfect 2-2 in goal kicks on the season. The Peacocks do have one red card on the season. Senior Katie Samuels leads UIU with two goals on the season, while the Peacocks have three more single goal scorers so far. Freshman Rachyl Benavides leads the Peacocks with nine shots while the duo of senior Haley Ramberg and sophomore Alex Garcia each have made five shots on goal to lead the Peacocks. UIU has used all three rostered goaltenders so far this season with all three starting at least one game. This past weekend against SCSU and UMD the Peacocks used the duo of freshmen Jamie Kirkvliet and Isabelle Wagner. Kirkvliet has started three games this year but playing in five total while allowing only three goals on 19 saves while facing 46 shots. On the other hand Wagner has started three games as well but having allowed four goals while making seven saves on 31 shots.
Minot State will look to form their second win streak of the season after it was snapped in the nil-nil tie against USF. Thanks to a steadily healthier
Chloe Allan the Beavers chances of that seem to increase every day as they saw why this past weekend when Allan scored the lone goal for the Beavers while mustering three shots. Goaltender
Maddie Kindred wasn't tested often last weekend only needing to make 10 saves between the two matchups, but when called upon made huge saves to keep the Beavers where they were last weekend and added two more shutouts to her resume. The Beavers will look to keep the offensive push going this next weekend after putting up 21 and 31 shots respectively this past weekend.
The Beavers will stay on the road following this weekends matchups as they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. Friday Sept. 30th to take on the Northern State Wolves at 6 p.m. Following the matchup with the Wolves the Beavers will travel to Moorhead, Minn. to tame the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons Sunday Oct. 2nd at noon.
