Beavers head back on the road for duo of tough matchups

MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State women's soccer team (3-2-4, 3-1-2 NSIC) prepare for their second straight weekend of road contests. This week the Beavers head to Aberdeen, S.D. to square off against the Northern State Wolves (4-2-3, 2-1-3 NSIC) Friday night at 6 p.m. on the Athletic and Recreation Fields on the campus of NSU. Following the showdown with the Wolves, the Beavers will travel to Moorhead, Minn. to try and extinguish the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons (1-5-1, 1-4-1 NSIC) Sunday afternoon with kickoff set for noon at Nemzek Soccer Field.

Minot State is coming off an 1-0-1 weekend, first with a 1-1 tie at Winona State Friday night. The Beavers bounced back with a huge win Sunday afternoon at Upper Iowa, when Chloe Allan's goal combined with stellar defense held the Beavers to the 1-0 victory.

The Northern State Wolves are coming off an impressive 0-0-2 weekend on the road against two of the top teams in the conference. The Wolves first secured the 1-1 tie against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, followed by a scoreless tie against the 18th ranked team in the country the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks. The Wolves are outscoring their opponents 11-3 so far on the season as well as making 109 shots with 46 of them on goal. The Wolves are a very disciplined team as they have yet to receive a yellow or red card on the season while only getting 59 fouls on the season. NSU has made 45 saves and 45 corner kicks while converting their only penalty kick for a goal on the season. NSU has a pair of three goal scorers to lead the squad, in sophomore Megan Fastenau and junior Hannah Smith while Fastenau leads the Wolves with 14 shots, followed by Smith and junior Kelsey Selden each with 12, while all three players have five shots on goal to lead NSU. In goal the Wolves have relied upon sophomore Alexus Townsend who has started all nine of the matches and accumulated a 4-2-3 record.. Townsend does account for only three goals allowed in those nine games while getting four shut outs, good for a 0.39 goals against average. Townsend also has made 42 saves while facing 86 shots.

The Dragons didn't have a weekend that they would like to remember last weekend. First on Friday night taking the 6-0 setback to the Mavericks before falling 4-1 to the Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon. MSUM hasn't been able to find their offensive output so far as they have only mustered seven goals on the season. The Dragons have gotten 70 total shots while 30 of them have been shots on goal. The Dragons have gotten three yellow cards and accumulating 48 fouls while making 52 saves while attempting 15 corner kicks, and the Dragons have gone two for three on penalty kick goals on the year. Most of the offensive production has come from freshman Jensen Seidel as Seidel has garnered three goals and 13 shots with eight of those shots on goal all team highs. The goalkeeping situation for the Dragons has been spread evenly amongst the junior duo of Quinn Carter and Simone Lewald who have each played in four games, while Lewald has started four games compared to Carter's three. Carter has allowed 12 goals while making 28 saves but facing 78 shots for a 3.43 goals against average, a 1-2-0 record, and a 0.700 save percentage. Lewald has allowed eight goals while stopping 24 saves facing 74 shots for a 2.29 goals against average, a 0-3-1 record, and a 0.750 save percentage.

Following the tough road test the Beavers will finally be able to stick to the locker room at the MSU Dome as the Augustana Vikings and Wayne State Wildcats travel up north to the Beaver dam. The Beavers first take on the Augustana Vikings (3-4-2, 3-2-1 NSIC) who are right below the Beavers in the NSIC standings Friday night on the First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium at 5 p.m. The Beavers will wrap up the quick home stand with a hopeful taming of the WSC Wildcats (1-5-3, 1-3-2 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon with kickoff set for noon.
