MINOT, N.D. – The momentum of the game changed on one unlucky bounce for the Beavers.
Tied, and on the power play, a blocked shot led to a breakaway goal for visiting Indiana Tech which rode that momentum to a 5-2 win over fifth-ranked Minot State on Friday.
The Beavers (12-6-1 overall) host the fourth-ranked Warriors (21-3-0) again on Saturday at 3:45 p.m.
Minot State started out strong, taking a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as a shot from the blue line by
Paige Ackerman was deflected, went high in the air and sailed over Indiana Tech goalie Mackenzie Addley.
Ensley Fendelet assisted on the opening goal.
That lead held up until the opening moments of period number two when the Warriors evened the score, but midway through the period,
Jordan Kulbida put the Beavers back in front, taking a long pass from
Anna German, breaking in alone on Addley and scoring for a 2-1 lead.
The Warriors tied it 2:09 later, then the game turned with Minot State looking to capitalize on the power play.
Instead of scoring with the man-advantage, the Beavers saw a shot at the blue line blocked, second Dakota Bowler on a breakaway for Indiana Tech.
Bowler's goal broke the tie and sent the Warriors on their way as they added another goal in the second period, then one more late in the third to close out the win.
Haylie Biever made 10 saves for Minot State before leading the game in the second period, and
Jordan Ivanco added six saves for Minot State, which outshot Indiana Tech, 38-21.
