JAMESTOWN, N.D. - It didn't matter that the Beavers had to play catch-up, in the end, Minot State prevailed.
The top-ranked Minot State men's hockey team spotted host and in-state rival Jamestwon a one-goal lead, then rallied for a 4-2 comeback win Friday night on the road.
The win was the fifth straight for Minot State (22-1-0 overall) this season over the eighth-ranked Jimmies.
Jamestown took the lead late in the first period on a Jake Huculak goal with 1 minute, 53 seconds left before the intermission.
The lead didn't last long as the Beavers came out strong after the break and tied it on a goal by
Joey Moffatt with 3:31 gone in the second period off assists by
Jay Buchholz and
Sheldin Howard.
Just 31 seconds later,
Drew Carter put the Beavers in front for good, finishing off assists from
Landyn Cochrane and
Carter Barley for a 2-1 Minot State advantage.
Connor Navrot pushed the lead to 3-1, scoring the eventual game-winner off assists from
Davis Sheldon and
Troy Hamilton with 10:58 left in the second, capping a busy session of scoring for Minot State.
The Beavers then iced the win with a short-handed goal by
Josh Pederson off a Carter assist with 6:27 left in the game.
Jamestown scored a late goal to draw a bit closer but couldn't come back from the Beavers onslaught.
Jake Anthony finished with 24 saves in goal in the win for Minot State, which now heads home for back-to-back games as the Beavers host Mary on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., then host Dakota College of Bottineau on Sunday at 4 p.m.
