Minot State men send game to overtime but fall in extra session

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- This fantastic finish wasn't so fantastic for the Beavers.
 
After Cam'ron Dunfee dramatically tied the game to force overtime for Minot State, a foul with 1 second left allowed host Concordia, Saint Paul to hit 3 free-throws for an 86-85 upset of the Beavers in NSIC action Friday night.
 
The Beavers (9-10 overall, 6-9 NSIC) had five players score in double figures, led by Ben Bohl who had 16 points. Khari Broadway added 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, and Jaxon Gunville chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals from the bench.
 
The Minot State offense was strong from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 24 attempts. Gunville hit four treys for the Beavers in the contest.
 
Minot State forced 18 Concordia, Saint Paul turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Friday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Broadway's four steals led the way for Minot State.
 
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 14-10 advantage, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 12:45 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jalen Cook, to increase its lead to 20-10. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 40-38.
 
Concordia, Saint Paul kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 45-38 advantage before Minot State went on an 11-0 run, finished off by Gunville's three, to seize a 49-45 lead with 16:28 to go in the contest. The Golden Bears then fought back to even things up at 74-74 and send the game to overtime. Dunfee's shot sent the contest to an extra period as time expired. Minot State capitalized on 12 Concordia, Saint Paul turnovers in the period, collecting 16 points off those turnovers.
 
Concordia, Saint Paul then snagged an 83-76 advantage with 2:07 left in the first overtime before Minot State responded by going on a 9-0 run to seize an 85-83 lead with seven seconds to go in the period. Concordia, Saint Paul re-asserted control, outscoring the Beavers 3-0 the rest of the way to hand Minot State the 86-85 loss.
