SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- The Minot State women's basketball team kept Concordia, Saint Paul to just 18.2 percent from deep in a 4-for-22 shooting performance but fell 71-61 to the Golden Bears on the road Friday in NSIC action.
The Beavers (9-12 overall, 4-10 NSIC) had two players score in double figures, led by Kate Head who had 22 points, five assists, and two steals. Natasha Elliott added 12 points and Emma Mogen added seven points and three steals.
Elliott pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Minot State, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into eight second-chance points.
The Minot State defense was a problem in Friday's game, forcing 18 Concordia, Saint Paul turnovers while the Beavers committed 10. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor for Minot State. Mogen's three steals led the way individually for the Beavers.

"I can't fault our effort -- but we just need to be able to hit shots," Minot State coach MIke Brandt said. "We made a valiant comeback and I was happy with that. It is tough to win with shooting percentages like we had."
How It Happened
Minot State started out the scoring by going on a 6-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Mogen, to take an early lead with 6:34 left in the first quarter. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 15-12 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 15 points close to the basket.
The Beavers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 33-23.
Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 51-36 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
Minot State narrowed its deficit to 59-45 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Mogen's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 59-53 with 3:40 to go in the contest. Concordia, Saint Paul responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 71-61. Minot State pulled down five offensive rebounds to score six second-chance points out of 25 total in the period.
