WICHITA, Kan. -- The Minot State men's basketball team shot 52.2 percent from three-point range on the way to an 82-58 victory against the Rogers State Hillcats at Fugate Gymnasium on Saturday to open the season at the Conference Challenge hosted by Newman.
The Beavers (1-0 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Jalen Cook, who had 16 points. Khari Broadway added 15 points and six rebounds and Jake Lieppert chipped in as well with 10 points and four assists off the bench.
Minot State out-rebounded Rogers State 32-25 in Saturday's game, led by nine boards from Connor Hollenbeck.

After jumping out to a 7-2 advantage, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 14:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Caleb Van De Griend, to increase its lead to 14-2. The Beavers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 38-25 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 38 points.
Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 64-42 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Van De Griend's layup, to grow the lead to 73-42 with 6:31 to go in the contest. The Hillcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 82-58 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 44 points.
