MINOT, N.D. – A tough home stand for the Beavers means every game has heightened significance going forward. There is no better way to get back on track than this weekend when Minot State women's hockey goes on the road to face in-state rival Jamestown.
The 10
th-ranked Beavers (5-9-0) will go to Jamestown to face the Jimmies (9-2-0), who sit at No. 9 in the recent women's ACHA poll. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and for a matinee on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Minot State looks to find a groove after a grueling stretch that featured matchups against other top 10 teams. The Beavers are coming off a 4-2 loss and hope to bounce back after being swept by the Midland Warriors on home ice last weekend.
Jamestown enters the series having won their last two games, both against Dakota College at Bottineau. The Jimmies combined for eight goals scored and two goals given up. Their most recent matchup was a 3-1 final versus the Ladyjacks.
The Jimmies are led in scoring by forward Crystal Wale, with 13 points. She also leads the charge in goals, with eight of them. Next in line for Jamestown is Kiran Vugteveen, with 12 points including seven goals.
Goaltenders have shared the crease for the Jimmies, but Lilah Drew carries most of the workload. In seven games played, she holds a 4-2-0 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.
Scoring continues to be widespread for the Beavers. There is a three-way tie for the lead in points with six between
Anna German,
Paige Kozak, and
Paige Ackerman.
Aspen Cooper and
Krissy Rink are top of the list in goals, with three each.
Haylie Biever has backstopped Minot State in the crease. She has registered good numbers amid a 4-9-0 record. The goals-against average sits at 2.36, while maintaining a .923 save percentage. Although, it was
Morgan Baker who came in relief last Saturday versus Midland after Biever left the contest with an injury.
This is the first time both teams will see each other this season. Minot State has established dominance in the all-time series that started early last season, having won all nine games versus the Jimmies. Last time these two teams matched up was in Chesterfield, MO for the WMCH Tournament, where the Beavers took care of business in a 5-2 win back on February 23.
The Beavers will head to Jamestown for two quick games away from Minot. After that, they will compete in a home-and-home series with the Dakota College at Bottineau Ladyjacks. That matchup is set to take place on the first weekend of December.
