CROOKSTON, Minn. -- Khari Broadway scored 20 points to help lead the Minot State men's basketball team over the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 79-67 on the road Tuesday night in the NSIC opener for both teams.
The Beavers (3-1 overall, 1-0 NSIC) had four players score in double figures, led by Broadway, who had 20 points, five assists and three steals. Connor Hollenbeck added 18 points and six rebounds and Caleb Van De Griend helped out with a double-double off the bench with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Van De Griend pulled down seven offensive rebounds to lead the Minot State offense which grabbed 19 boards and turned them into 16 second-chance points.
Coach's Comments
"We've been on the road for four straight games so I'm extremely proud of the guys ability to bounce back from a tough loss last time out," Minot State head coach Matt Murken said. "We had some guys step up and have big contributions. It was a total team effort."
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-17 advantage, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 6:19 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Broadway, to increase its lead to 26-17. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-26 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 32 points close to the basket.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Van De Griend's layup, to grow the lead to 58-48 with 7:38 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 79-67 win. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 47 total points.
