GRAND FORKS, ND -- The Minot State women's basketball team got a 20-point performance from the bench, but fell 82-53 to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on the road Tuesday in non-conference action.
Sydney Gustavsson led the Beavers (1-7 overall, 0-1 NSIC) with 14 points and three steals. Peyton Breidenbach tacked on eight points from the bench and Vilborg Jonsdottir helped out with four points and two steals.
The Beavers next return to NSIC play at Bemidji State on Friday and St. Cloud State on Saturday.
The Minot State offense was very productive from deep, pouring in eight threes on 27 attempts. Jaime Skeggs was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining two treys in the contest.
Minot State forced 18 North Dakota turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Gustavsson's three steals led the way for Minot State.

"UND started slow as we also did, but their athleticism and physical play took its toll on us on both ends of the floor in the second quarter and beyond," Minot State coach Mike Brandt said. "We will have to quickly regroup and get ready for another tough road trip this weekend."
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 7:46 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Gustavsson, to take a 6-4 lead. North Dakota then responded to tie things up at 10-10 heading into the second quarter. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 10 points.
North Dakota then took a 12-10 lead before Minot State responding by going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Breidenbach, to take a 15-12 lead. The Fighting Hawks then came roaring back to take a 35-22 lead heading into halftime.
Minot State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Beavers faced a 60-32 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
North Dakota kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 69-40 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Breidenbach's three, to shrink the deficit to 69-45 with 5:45 to go in the contest. North Dakota responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 82-53. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 21 points.
