Beavers to wrap up first half of season in Jamestown before Christmas break

MINOT, N.D. – Back like they never left! The Minot State women's hockey team returns to Jamestown for one last rush in the first half of the season. Amid a four-game winning streak, the Beavers hope to finish strong heading into the holiday break. Right in their path are the Jimmies for another two-game set.

The No. 8 Beavers (9-9-0) play the 11th-ranked Jamestown Jimmies (9-6-0) at Wilson Arena for both games. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Minot State has been rolling as of late, having won the last four games including two of them against Jamestown. The Beavers are coming off a 4-1 win versus Dakota College at Bottineau and are showing no signs of slowing down.

With all momentum on the Beavers' side, Jamestown is currently facing a four-game slide themselves. The Jimmies are destined to get back on track following a 4-0 loss to the Midland Warriors.

The Beavers will have to pay extra close attention to Crystal Wale. As Jamestown's player to watch, she leads the Jimmies in both points (13) and goals (8).

Shared efforts in the crease for Jamestown have not changed much since the last time these two teams met. With nine games at her disposal, Lilah Drew holds a 2.83 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. Up next with seven games played is Makenzie Gibson, who possesses a 2.18 goals-against average and .933 save percentage. Some impressive numbers from the Jamestown goaltenders.

Scoring has started to pick up for Minot State, and the numbers are spread out across the board. Minot native Paige Ackerman continues to sit at the top for points, with 10. Another defenseman has stood out as the goal leader for the Beavers, as Aspen Cooper has generated five of them including two on the power play.

The goalie depth has stepped up in Haylie Biever's absence because of recovery from an injury. Morgan Baker has seized the opportunity, sitting at a 1.47 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. Chloe Sorenson got her first start of the season, giving up only one goal in a winning effort last weekend.

It is the third meeting between both teams in less than a month. Minot State previously won a defensive battle by a final score of 2-0 in Jamestown back on November 19. The Beavers look to stay red hot against the Jimmies, as they have won all 11 contests in the all-time matchup history.

Minot State will put a cap on the first half of the season versus the Jamestown Jimmies, and then it is off to Christmas break. The Beavers will be away for over a month to celebrate the holidays. Following their time off, they will resume the season in the new year to play their first game of 2024. That also happens to be against Jamestown, as this time they will play the role of home team on January 13 and 14.
