MINOT, N.D. – The Beavers have a prolific offense, but they can win the close, low-scoring contests as well.
A fact that No. 1 Minot State proved on Sunday as the Beavers hung tough for a 2-0 win over visiting and eighth-ranked Jamestown at the Maysa Arena.
Sheldin Howard scored the game-winner, a power-play goal with 7 minutes, 31 seconds gone in the first period, then the Beavers held strong on defense.
Carter Barley and
Davis Sheldon each assisted on the early goal.
From there it turned into a defensive struggle as Brandon Weare stopped almost every shot he faced aside from Howard's early goal, then one late as
Christian Kadolph iced the win with a power-play goal with 8 seconds left.
Sheldon and
Joey Moffatt assisted on the late goal.
Beavers' goalie
Jake Anthony did Weare one better, turning aside all 23 Jimmies shots he faced for the shutout win.
Minot State now hits the road for a big weekend series in Virginia, playing Friday and Saturday at No. 6-ranked Liberty.
