MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team got a 35-point performance from the bench, but lacked gusto, falling 71-65 to the Bemidji State Beavers at home Friday.
Connor Hollenbeck led the Beavers (9-12, 6-11) in double figures with 18 points, Khari Broadway tacked on with 13 points, four assists and two steals off the bench. Mason Hedberg also flew high off the bench with 12 points.
The Minot State offense made hay from downtown, making eight threes on 27 attempts. Hedberg hit four treys for the Beavers in the contest.
How It Happened
The Minot State Beavers had a slow start, struggling out of the gate, and falling behind 35-23 heading into halftime.
The Bemidji Beavers kept widening their lead after intermission, constructing a 67-52 advantage while the Minot State Beaver's tussled to get the break they needed but fell short. The Minot State Beavers then went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Jalen Cook's layup, to shrink the deficit to 67-58 with 1:29 to go in the contest. The Beavers (Minot State) kept their comeback going, but Bemidji State managed to hold on for the 71-65 win.
Indeed Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of it's 42 points; however, they missed opportunities on the steals and rebounds.
