MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team went into halftime beating Bemidji State 24-23, but could not pull away in the second half and fell 70-61 to the Beavers at home Friday.
The Beavers (9-14, 4-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Kennedy Harris, who had 19 points. Natasha Elliott added 12 points and two steals and Kate Head chipped in as well with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Emma Mogen pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Minot State, grabbing 14 boards and turning them into 15 second chance points.

The Minot State defense caused its share of mistakes in Friday's game, forcing 14 Bemidji State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Vilborg Jonsdottir's three steals led the way individually for the Beavers.

How It Happened
Minot State started off strong, putting together a 14-10 lead heading into the second quarter. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 14 points close to the basket.

Minot State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 6:43 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Jaime Skeggs, to increase its lead to 22-16. The Beavers cut into that lead, but the Beavers still enjoyed a 24-23 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 10 points.

Bemidji State then took a 30-28 lead following intermission before Minot State went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Harris, to grab a 35-30 lead with 3:21 to go in the third. Bemidji State responded to seize a 42-41 lead entering the fourth quarter. Minot State took advantage of five Bemidji State turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of takeaways.

Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 70-61. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 20 points in the paint.
