WINONA, Minn. – Derek Kay's two-run single tied it, then his patience won it as Minot State rallied to top Winona State on Tuesday in the nightcap of an NSIC baseball doubleheader.
Playing at the home team at the Warriors ballpark, the Beavers rallied for a 9-8 win after falling 8-4 in the day's opener.
Minot State (15-7 overall, 6-4 NSIC) is back in action this weekend playing a three-game series at Concordia, St. Paul, with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. First pitch each day is scheduled for noon.
GAME 1 | Winona State 8, Minot State 4
WINONA, Minn. -- Though they had plenty of opportunities, Minot State struggled to cash them in, leaving 10 Beavers on base in an 8-4 setback at the hands of the Winona State Warriors on Tuesday.
Senior Garrett Nicholson (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State.
Junior Mark Ossanna led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Senior Matt Malone compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior Javier Gutierrez also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Minot State with a double and a walk.

WINONA, Minn. --The Minot State Beavers broke through after an 8-8 tie in the seventh inning to knock off the Winona State Warriors 9-8 Tuesday.
Junior Austin Loeb (1-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out one. Junior Cameron Bagshaw also pitched well, going three shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking none and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by senior Derek Kay who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and four RBI. Junior Derrick Winn put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and three RBI. Junior Mark Ossanna also chipped in for Minot State, adding three walks.
