SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Lorelei McIver racked up 7 steals, and the Minot State women's basketball team defeated the Augustana Vikings 66-60 on the road Thursday in NSIC action.

Coach's Comments
"What a great road win for us," Minot State head coach Mike Brandt said. "We played our best basketball of the year in the first half as we looked like a veteran team. The second half was a different story - but the main thing is we hung on against a junior and senior led team. I am very happy for our team, who are really coming into their own!"

How It Happened

Minot State started out the scoring by going on a 9-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Emily Srejma, to take an early lead with 7:28 left in the first quarter. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 19-12 advantage. Minot State did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 19 points close to the basket.

Minot State built that first quarter lead to 27-16 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 4:11 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Srejma, to increase its lead to 33-16. The Vikings cut into that lead, but the Beavers still enjoyed a 35-20 advantage heading into halftime. Minot State dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 16 points close to the basket.

After intermission, Minot State held on to its advantage and owned a 49-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Minot State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.

Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Mogen's three, to grow the lead to 61-50 with 4:21 to go in the contest. The Vikings narrowed the margin with a 10-0 run, but a Gustavsson basketball and a late turnover by Augustana helped seal the win in the final half minute. Minot State took advantage of five Augustana turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
