MINOT, N.D. – In dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, the Beavers found a way to remain perfect against in-state rival Jamestown.
Minot State's
Abby Tallman tied it in the final five minutes of regulation, then in the fifth round of a shootout she netted the only shootout goal, lifting the Beavers to a 3-2 comeback win at the Maysa Arena.
The victory makes Minot State (4-2-0 overall, 2-2-0 WMCH) a perfect 19-0-0 against their in-state rival.
Minot State started off the contest strong as
Tori Bear netted her first collegiate goal with 12 minutes, 16 seconds left in the opening period, and there it stayed for more than 20 minutes.
The Beavers lead disappeared in the second period, though, as Jamestown tied it with 8:19 left in the stanza, then took its first lead of the weekend with 1:42 left before intermission.
Battling to erase the deficit, the Beavers finally tied it with 4:40 left on Tallman's fourth goal this season off assists from
Olivia Opheim and Bear, sending the game into overtime.
After five scoreless minutes, the game went to the shootout where Minot State goalie
Haylie Biever made five straight saves, one better than Jamestown's Makenzie Gibson, who Tallman slipped the puck behind to end the contest.
Biever finished with 36 saves in the win for Minot State, which is off next weekend then continues an 8-game homestand hosting Midland on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3:45 p.m. and Sunday, Oct.27, at 1 p.m.
