Brett Tataryn netted his first collegiate goal and junior transfer
Austin Clyne added his first with the Beavers as Minot State rallied for a thrilling 5-4 win in a see-saw battle with in-state rival the University of Mary on Wednesday night.
Jake Anthony added 21 saves in goal in the victory for Minot State, which improved to 3-0-0 overall on the season and a perfect 3-0-0 mark in Midwest Collegiate Hockey action.
The Beavers wrap up their season-opening, four-game road trip next week playing at Jamestown on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Wednesday night in Bismarck,
Joey Moffatt got the scoring started for Minot State with a goal 4 minutes, 58 seconds into the contest, and after the host Marauders (5-1-0, 2-1-0 MCH) tied it, Tataryn's first collegiate goal put Minot State back in front 2-1 with 3:52 left in the period.
Mary then took control in period No. 2, scoring three goals in a 7:20 stretch trying to break the game open, but a late Beaver tally changed the game's momentum.
With 18 seconds left before intermission,
Reid Arnold scored to cut the difference to 4-3 and give the Beavers energy headed into the final stanza.
Colby Joseph ended up tying the game with a power-play goal 5:11 into the third, then Clyne's first in a Minot State uniform, off an assist from
Josh Pederson with 8:57 left to play, gave the Beavers the win.
Pederson added one more assist for Minot State, which also got helpers from
Reece Henry, Moffatt,
Jay Buchholz,
Brayden Pawluk,
Trenton Curtis, and Joseph.
