Minot State celebrates "Senior Night" with shutout win over Sioux Falls

MINOT, N.D. -- The Beavers found the perfect way to celebrate "Senior Night" - score a pair of goals and blank visiting Sioux Falls.

Senior keeper Siriana Gudino notched her 9th shutout this season and 13th of her career, and senior teammate Sofia Galvez netted the game winner in the final minute of the first half as Minot State notched a 2-0 win over the Cougars on Friday night at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium.

With the win, Minot State improved its record to 8-3-4 overall and 6-3-3 in NSIC play and moved into a three-way tie for fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the NSIC standings with two games left in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the NSIC playoffs.

Minot State can punch its playoff ticket on Sunday with a victory over visiting Wayne State. Kick-off is slated for noon.

Coaches Comments
"Great game by the team," Minot State head coach TJ Perez said. "Their effort, attitude, and discipline was what we needed in the game and they executed that perfectly. Happy for the seniors as well to get a win on Senior Night!

"Iliana Rivera had a great game," Perez added, "put their back line under pressure and was a constant threat, resulting in a goal at the end.

"Sofia Galvez had a solid game again. Defensively helping, in possession helping us swing play, and scoring the game winner in the first half.

"Brooklyn Casey and Mia Lewis had some great pressure and attacking runs through out the game as well."

Minot State grabbed a 1-0 lead when Galvez scored her first goal of the season in the 44th minute, assisted by Brooklyn Casey.

The Beavers iced the win with a goal from Rivera -- her second goal of the season -- in the 88th minute off an assist from Anna Miotto.
