Minot State falls to host Black Hills State

SPEARFISH, S.D. -- The Minot State women's basketball team got a 26-point performance from the bench, but fell 83-57 to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets on the road Friday in non-conference action.
 

Lorelei McIver led the Beavers (1-3 overall) with 14 points. Maya Aguilar tacked on six points and two steals and Natalie Holte helped out with nine points from the bench.


The Minot State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 20 attempts. Ashley Wacha was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining three treys in the contest.

Minot State is off for the next week and a half, heading to Jamestown on Nov. 19 for their next game before hosting Mayville State on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the MSU Dome.
 

How It Happened

Minot State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 18-15.
 

The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 40-25 halftime deficit.


Black Hills State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 57-37 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from McIver, to trim its deficit to 57-42 with 38 seconds to go in the third. Black Hills State countered and stretched its lead to 60-42 heading into the fourth. Minot State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period as non-starters totaled eight of the team's 17 third-quarter points.


Black Hills State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 75-48 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Wacha's three, to shrink the deficit to 75-54 with 2:05 to go in the contest. Black Hills State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 83-57. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 15 points.
