ABERDEEN, SD --The Minot State women's basketball team fell short in a 78-52 loss to the Northern State University Wolves on the road Saturday.
The Beavers (3-10, 2-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Emma Mogen, who had 17 points. Sydney Gustavsson added 14 points and Jaime Skeggs added two points, six rebounds and two steals.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-26 halftime deficit.
Northern State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 48-28 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Katie Aberle, to trim its deficit to 48-33 with 7:03 to go in the third. Northern State countered and stretched its lead to 68-42 heading into the fourth. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
Northern State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 72-42 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Natalie Holte's layup, to shrink the deficit to 72-48 with 7:30 to go in the contest. Northern State responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 78-52. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 10 points in the paint.
