Jordan Aus era at Minot State began with a familiar face setting a new school record as the Beavers kicked off the indoor track and field season Saturday at the Mike Thorson Open hosted by the University of Mary.
Minot State's new head coach, Aus, saw his team turn in some standout starting performances as
Summer Krebsbach broke the NCAA Division II-era school record in the women's 60-meter dash while
Devontae Daley provided a victory in the men's 600 meters.
Those were the two biggest highlights on the day for a trimmed-down Beaver team that now gets more than a month off before returning to competition at the Marauders Indoor Opener on January 18.
In the season opener Saturday, Krebsbach led the way for the Beavers as the junior sprinter from Max, North Dakota broke her own D-II record (7.89) in the 60 meters finishing 3
rd overall in 7.78 seconds.
Krebsbach also finished 9
th in the 200 meters in 26.26 on the day as she was one of just three Minot State women competing, which included a pair of freshmen who enjoyed successful collegiate debuts.
Nedrose High School product
Kaydee Boyce turned in a pair of top-10 finishes in her first meet as she was 7
th in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 4.25 inches and 9th in the triple jump with a mark of 31-4 in her debut meet.
And Minot High School product
Emily Mattern added a 7
th-place finish in the women's 400 meters in 1 minute, 0.34 seconds in her first collegiate meet.
Meanwhile on the men's side, Daley, a junior from Spanish Town, Jamaica led the way as he won the 600 meters in 1:23.33 on Saturday and helped the Beaver men's 4x400 relay finish second in 3:28.25.
In the relay, he teamed up with
Nathan Trujillo-Aragon,
Lucas Siebuhr, and
Micah Earnest as they provided one of two runner-up finishes for Minot State, which also got a 2
nd-place finish from senior thrower
Dallas Reese who was 2
nd in the shot put with a throw of 48-11, an indoor personal best.
Adding to the Beavers' top finishes on the day on the men's side were sprinter
Devan Daniels and hurdler
Nasir Dilworth who each finished 4
th as Daniels was 4th in 60-meter dash in 7.02 and Dilworth placed 4th in the 60 hurdles in 8.34.
