Minot State softball falls in extras, drops pair on Saturday in Kansas

Central Missouri 4, Minot State 3, 8 innings
TOPEKA, Kan. -- 
The Minot State Beavers fell 4-3 in an eight-inning matchup to the Central Missouri Jennies on Saturday in non-conference play at the Washburn Invitational.
 

Senior Gabi Dawyduk (1-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State. The right-hander went eight innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
 

In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by junior Chesie McLaughlin, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Junior Abbey Kelley put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Dawyduk also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to Kelley's RBI double with two outs.
 

The Jennies then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Beavers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Junior Hannah Murray came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Jennies.
 

Minot State held the Jennies off the scoreboard before rallying to tie it up at three in the seventh. The Beavers scored a run on McLaughlin's leadoff home run off junior Amanda Hansen. Central Missouri then scored one in the eighth inning to break the tie and grab the 4-3 win.

The Minot State Beavers fell to the Washburn Ichabods 7-1 despite the efforts of junior Abby Lohse, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on Saturday in the Beavers final game at the Washburn Invitational. 


Junior Reegan Floyd (1-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (5-7 overall).
 

At the plate, the Beavers were paced by Lohse, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Taryn Bennett put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Senior Lauryn DeGuzman also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning when they put runs on the board. Minot State got on the board thanks to Lohse's RBI double with two outs. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
