Kozlowitz leads Beavers going 4-for-8 but Minot State drops pair to Metro State

DENVER, Colo. -- The Minot State Beavers got three hits from Gunnar Kozlowitz in a 16-3 non-conference loss to the Metro State Denver Roadrunners on Friday.
 

Trevyn Badger (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State (2-8 overall, 1-3 NSIC).


Kozlowitz's three-hit day led the Beavers offensively. Javier Gutierrez put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Miles Iverson also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two RBI.


HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Gutierrez put Minot State on the board with a two-out solo home run off Jack Slominski.


The Roadrunners expanded their lead to 16-1 before the Beavers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. Minot State picked up two runs when a single from Iverson brought home Kozlowitz and Grant Gabbert, which tightened the Roadrunners lead to 16-3. The ballgame ended with that ninth-inning rally falling short.

DENVER, Colo. -- The Minot State Beavers battled on Friday but fell in the nightcap of their doubleheader to the Metro State Denver Roadrunners 8-4 despite the efforts of Gunnar Kozlowitz, who went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Connor Meldrim (0-1) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss.

At the plate, the Beavers were paced by Kozlowitz, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Grant Gabbert furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Javier Gutierrez also contributed for Minot State, putting together three walks.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with runs in the top of the first inning. Minot State put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Kozlowitz.

The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 4-2. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Mark Ossanna, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Metro State Denver expanded their lead to 8-3 before the Minot State offense got going, reducing that lead to 8-4 in the sixth. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Ricky Apodaca. The Beavers were unable to get any closer as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
