GOLDEN, Colo. -- Four Minot State players notched at least two hits, but the Beavers fell to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 27-6 on Saturday in non-conference baseball.
Senior Craig Schmich (0-3) got the ball to start for Minot State (2-9 overall, 1-3 NSIC) and took the loss. Sophomore Colton Bagshaw was a bright spot for the Beavers, throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Junior Brian Parry led the hit barrage for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk. Junior Miles Iverson put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning as senior Ricky Apodaca had an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch himself in the rally.
The Orediggers then rallied to score 12 runs and take a 12-3 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the fifth. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Apodaca, which tightened the Orediggers lead to 12-4.
Colorado School of Mines expanded their lead to 19-4 before the Minot State offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 19-5 in the seventh. The Beavers added a run on Iverson's leadoff home run off senior Luke Folsom.
