Minot State scores win in 11th inning on Grant Gabbert's 3-run homer

DENVER, Colo. -- It took a few extra innings but the Beavers walked off the field winners Sunday in Colorado.

Grant Gabbert's 3-run home run in the top of the 11th inning proved to be the final decisive blow for Minot State, which won a see-saw battle over the Colorado Christian Cougars, 17-15 in non-conference baseball on Sunday.


Gage Yost (1-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (3-9 overall). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Cameron Bagshaw also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing two innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
 

At the plate, the Beavers were led by Gabbert, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run, a walk and four RBI. Brent Riddle furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI. Ricky Apodaca also helped out for Minot State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding two doubles, a walk and three RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers scored in eight different innings on the way to the win. After holding the lead two different times earlier in the ballgame, Minot State broke a 14-14 tie and took the lead for good at 17-14 in the 11th inning The big hit for the Beavers in the inning was a three-run home run off the bat of Gabbert.

Riddle had a 3-run homer in the top of the 2nd inning to put Minot State on top 4-0 at the time. Apodaca added an RBI double in the inning to push the Beavers lead to 6-0.
