WAYNE, Neb. – The Minot State baseball team fell 9-2 and 13-7 in an NSIC doubleheader against Wayne State on Saturday.
Both games were home contests for the Beavers (8-17 overall, 5-10 NSIC) despite being played at Wayne State.
Minot State is on the road again next weekend as the Beavers play a four-game series at Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
GAME 1 | Wayne State 9, Minot State 2
WAYNE, Neb. -- Junior Brent Riddle went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in a 9-2 loss to the Wayne State Wildcats on Saturday.
Sophomore Jonah Prokott (1-1) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Senior Tim Carlson was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three innings, giving up one run on three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Senior Martin Rodriquez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Beavers deficit expanded to 9-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Minot State picked up a run on Riddle's one-out solo home run off of Nathan Anderson, which brought the score to 9-2 in favor of the Wildcats. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

WAYNE, Neb. -- Senior Mark Ossanna strung together three hits, but the Minot State Beavers fell to the Wayne State Wildcats 13-7 Saturday.
Junior Gage Yost (1-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State. Junior Hayden Bode was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out two.
In addition to his three hits, Ossanna had a double to lead the Beavers. Junior Grant Gabbert furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Colton Bagshaw also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minot State plated two runs off of Wayne State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Bagshaw.
The Beavers lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 8-2. Minot State managed to push across two runs in the inning, one coming on a Miles Iverson sacrifice fly, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Wildcats.
Wayne State expanded its lead to 12-4 before the Minot State offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 12-5 in the seventh. The Beavers recorded a run on Gabbert's one-out solo home run off Eli Crnkovich.
Minot State held the Wildcats off the board before narrowing the gap further in the eighth. Junior Brent Riddle and sophomore Noah Madas each scored a run for the Beavers in the inning, bringing the score to 12-7 in favor of Wayne State. Coloton Bagshaw had an RBI in the rally. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Wayne State added one run to their tally on the way to a 13-7 final.
